Preview:

Ennis vs. Avanesyan, a boxing match presented by Matchroom, is scheduled to take place in Philadelphia, USA, early on July 14. The main event will see American welterweight world champion Jaron Ennis defend his title against David Avanesyan, an Armenian challenger. One of the best boxers in the modern era, Jaron Ennis, will be defending the championship for the first time. After the IBF stripped Terence Crawford of the title last year, he was given the belt without a fight. Before then, Ennis was the interim champion. He defeated Karen Chukhadzhian to win the championship early in 2023, and he successfully defended it in July by defeating Roman Villa. Ennis began his professional career in 2016 and was previously represented by Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions. He signed with British promoter Eddie Hearn this year. Among his noteworthy wins are stoppages over Juan Carlos Abreu, Bakhtiyar Eyubov, Thomas Dulorme, Custio Clayton, and Sergey Lipinets. His record as a professional is 31 victories (28 via knockout) and 0 defeats. This is David Avanesyan’s third attempt at a world championship battle. His first opportunity came against Lamont Peterson, the WBA champion, in February 2017; he was defeated on points. On his second attempt, he lost in the sixth round of the WBO championship fight against Terence Crawford in December 2022. Avanesyan has only fought once since, winning it in four rounds over African journeyman Ambomo (record: 11-55-3). The interim WBA world champion title, which Avanesyan won in 2015 after fighting Charlie Navarro, is his greatest accomplishment to date. Additionally, he forced the aging veteran Shane Mosley into retirement and won significant bouts in Europe, defeating Josh Kelly of Britain and Kerman Lejarraga of Spain twice. 30 victories (18 via knockout), 2 defeats (2 via knockout), and 1 draw make up his professional record. The bookies strongly believe that Jaron Ennis will win, making the outcome seem inevitable. The likelihood points to Ennis as having a near-certain victory. Even with his expertise and notable victories, David Avanesyan is not likely to defeat the young and formidable champion.
