The 34th Grand Prix Climax! The decision of who will compete in the A Block Playoffs is due on Night 15. Four wrestlers are vying for the final two slots in the playoffs: EVIL, Great O-Khan, Shingo Takagi, and Tetsuya Naito. Zack Sabre Jr. has already secured his berth. It’s time to learn for sure! With both guys already out, this was the only tournament match on the board with absolutely no meaning. Despite this, for the six minutes or so that it lasted, it was an enjoyable match. With several dives to the ground, Callum Newman got ahead of Gabe Kidd early on. After they returned to the ring, the fight was very well matched until Kidd stopped Newman twice in a row with piledrivers. After that, Kidd used a chair to attack a few of the baby lions and then used the same chair to administer a DDT to Newman. Zack Sabre Jr. securing the top seed meant that four competitors would be vying for the final three slots on the A Block Playoffs card. Shingo Takagi had to prevail in this match, and Naito or EVIL had to lose after that. Jake Lee was effectively playing spoiler even though a win would have put him at ten points since a tiebreaker would not favor him. Jake Lee’s run of strong matches in this tournament was maintained by the excellent battle between these two. This one had a lot of excellent back-and-forth action, especially in the second half. After Shingo used a Death Valley Driver to block the Face Break Shot attempt, a superplex set up the final strike exchange, which culminated in a brief Pumping Bomber and Shingo holding Lee tightly for the pin. After a minute or so, Lee retaliated by attacking Shingo in the post-match. This was not the first time they had seen Lee immediately return after a defeat to voice his grievances to the floor announcer or referee. With the victory, Shingo is now well-positioned to move forward (depending on what happens in either of the next two bouts).
